What Closedhand stands for
AI should put more power in your hands.
An AI that knows your life and can act on your behalf could be extraordinarily useful. It could also become the most intimate dependency you have on a company. Closedhand exists because that power should belong to the person using it.
Your life should not become someone else’s asset
Your conversations, relationships, habits and plans are not raw material for somebody else’s growth strategy. The more an assistant learns about you, the more important it is that you control what it remembers and what it can do.
We want the convenience of AI without making surveillance the price of admission. You should be able to give a system useful context without giving a company custody of your life.
Cheap access is not ownership
When one company controls the software, the memory and the only way to reach them, your choices depend on its business model. A low price today gives you no say over tomorrow’s prices, restrictions or priorities. We should not build our lives around the hope that a gatekeeper stays generous.
AI should make people more capable and independent. We oppose a future where its benefits are rented back to us by a handful of companies, on terms we cannot change.
Open models need open software around them
A model alone does not know your life. It needs memory, connections to your tools, permissions and a way to carry work through. Whoever controls that surrounding software can still become the gatekeeper, even when the model is open.
That is why both layers matter. Open models make it possible to run intelligence on your own hardware. Open-source software such as Closedhand lets you own the environment it works in, inspect it, change it and keep using it without depending on its maker’s permission.
We believe open models are essential to AI’s future. You should also be free to use a hosted model when it suits you, and change providers without starting your life’s context from scratch.
Control should be something you can use
Closedhand runs on your computer or server. Its memory and conversations live there. You choose the models it uses, the services you connect and the access you grant. What it remembers is yours to see, edit and delete.
Those choices have real consequences. A hosted model receives the content needed for its work; a local model can process that work on your own hardware. Connected services still have their own terms. Ownership means being able to understand and choose those boundaries.
Our aim is a capable, proactive assistant that makes everyday life easier while leaving you in charge. The more powerful AI becomes, the more important it is that you can own the system around it.
